After
the Colts used the second-round pick to get Cincinnati receiver Alec Pierce, G.M. Chris Ballard said that Alec Pierce would have to prove his worth at any
cost. Lately, Frank Reich, Colts coach noted that the team was pressuring Alec Pierce to run and hard work for the title.
"He
will have to compete for every situation, okay?" Reich said to Kevin
Hickey, who belongs to USA Today. "The group is too much
aggressive. But yes, we're surely strengthening him. We are surely pushing him and want him to be in competition to receive in the
mix and get into the ground".
Reich
added to the discussion that Alec Pierce is a "very talented person"
and that he "quickly has learned the offence now."
Ballard
had previously explained in the #PFTPM that the Colts became motivated toward
Alec Pierce in the period of quarterback Desmond Ryder's campus
workout.
Ballard
said at that time, "There was nothing about talent; we just didn't have
information of how he was going to be as an athlete". "Yet we have
not seen him enough. To be able to watch him run and see his movement and lose
his weight, we predict that he will prove himself to be an authentic involver
to our team."
Ballard
warned at the moment that, as Reich now addresses, Alec Pierce would have to
prove his playing time at any cost for the progress.
Ballard
said, "They're rookies," "They all have a natural maturity
curve. They learned the game. They have an opportunity to enter and prove it.
The only thing you don't want to do is just stamp them. They have got to enter
and prove their role and their points in the team. Whether it's on special
teams or in three or four recipients. Whatever the character is to be performed
and then get their path, which we think Alec Pierce has the ability to do, but
from now onwards, he has to go to work."
The
work is taking place in the off-season programs. It will continue in the
teaching camp. Come the first week, either he has received it - or he's still
trying now.
