The PGA Tour announced on Thursday that it would suspend any players who play for LIV Golf. Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas, both vocal supporters of the Tour and critics of LIV Golf, were asked about the sanctions during Thursday's RBC Canadian Open.
Justin Thomas :
I'm satisfied. Everyone surprised hasn't been paying attention to what Jay and the rest of the team have been saying. They went into it knowing there was a risk, whether they realized it or not. I have a lot of faith and confidence in the PGA Tour and where we're headed and going to go, and those guys aren't going to be a part of it, as I've maintained the whole time.
Rory McIlroy:
At this time, I believe Jay has made it clear that he will only behave following the tournament rules and the rules that apply to PGA Tour members. He's simply following the book's instructions.
I believe most of the members here this week and haven't gone out to play elsewhere appreciate it. So I believe he did the right thing because these folks disobeyed the rules and did things outside of the tournament rules, and as a result, there will be consequences, I suppose.
On the Tour's announcement, 17 names had already been suspended, more likely to follow.
