Luis Enrique, the manager of Spain, believes Argentina and Brazil are the favorites for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Argentina won the Copa America title last year with a 1-0 win over Brazil in the final at the Maracana, their maiden major title since 1993. The Lionel Messi-led Argentina followed up that win with a 3-0 triumph over Italy in Finalissima earlier this month.
Despite finishing six points ahead of Argentina in the World Cup qualification rankings, South American teams went undefeated in the tournament.
"I consider Argentina and Brazil far superior to all other national teams," Luis Enrique said at a press conference on Saturday. "It's a cut above the rest."
In the meantime, Enrique's Spain team has struggled throughout this season's international break. After a 1-0 triumph over Switzerland on Thursday, the 2010 World Cup winners go into Sunday's Communities League match against the Czech Republic, hoping for only its second win of the tournament.
Spain drew both Group A2 games, drawing 1-1 against Portugal and 2-2 against the Czech Republic.
"Those who want us to win every game and do it by destroying our opponents have no idea after gaining two points from their first three Nations League games, France is at the bottom of Group A1.
Spain's goal-scoring woes have prompted calls for Enrique to start Barcelona striker Ansu Fati even against the Czech Republic.
Due to ailments and hamstring difficulties, Ansu, 19, has not played for Spain since October 2020, and he only made 14 appearances for Barcelona last season.
Enrique stated, "I do not doubt that he will return to his level." "In terms of his relationship with the goal, he is a one-of-a-kind player.
"Because we were aware of this, we were the first to call him. We can't afford to be rushed. He's had a terrible year, and we need to take the measures I've laid out for him.t modern football is all about," Enrique stated. "Take a look at France, the [2018] World Cup Champions and [2021] Nations Cup Champions."
These, I believe, are the most acceptable options for him. We're not going to risk anything."
Gavi, Ansu's Barcelona teammate, has played all three of Spain's Nations League games so far.
After scoring against the Czech Republic on Sunday, the juvenile midfielder broke the record previously held by Ansu, becoming Spain's fastest ever scorer at 17 years and 304 days.
Enrique lauded Gavi's abilities but added that the strong midfielder currently negotiating a new deal with Barcelona does have a lot to learn.
"On or off the pitch, Gavi has a lot to catch up on," he remarked.
