Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt left the preseason game
Following a low block, Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt left the preseason game on Sunday with a knee injury. Although Watt looks to have escaped significant harm, teammate Cam Heyward stated that defensive players shouldn't be subjected to such blocks after the incident.
Watt's low block against Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson
Watt's low block against Lions tight end T.J. Hockenson resembled the much-discussed low block Bengals tight end Thaddeus Moss gave Giants defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux: Both blocks were legitimate, but they were precisely the kinds of knee shots that NFL players detest.
Heyward admitted that Hockenson's block was legal following the game
Heyward admitted that Hockenson's block was legal following the game. Still, he asserted that it's time for a rule reform and that the NFL has given offensive players priority over defensive players regarding player safety.
We took great care of the offensive guys. Where is the defensive support? Heyward enquired.
The defense won't get any relief until at least 2023. That is still a legal roadblock this year.
