Results and points for the IndyCar Detroit race: Will Power won the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix on Sunday, taking the title race for the first time in the 2022 NTT IndyCar Series season.
Despite starting 16th, Power led 55 of the 70 laps, thanks to an intelligent tyre strategy for his No. 12 Dallara-Chevrolet. In the standings, he went three points ahead of Indy 500 champion Marcus Ericsson (who finished eighth).
This marks Team Penske's sixth win in seven IndyCar races this season (which has also had seven different pole-sitters), and each of the last five races has seen a new points leader.
It's such a good field, as if there aren't any terrible drivers, according to Power. "There aren't any drivers who shouldn't be on the road." They're all excellent.
IndyCar has become accustomed to this. This is the first and only series of its kind in the world. Try to predict who will win the next race or finish first on the pole, and you will win the championship. You couldn't do it. It isn't possible. So many incredible men exist.
On Sunday, the IndyCar race was the final at Belle Isle Raceway before the series moves to a street track in downtown Detroit next year.
