Andrew Whitworth
Andrew Whitworth has learned the power of his words quickly as he transitions from football player to member of the football media. He's currently attempting to reintroduce some of those words into the tube.
49ers-Texans game on Thursday
Whitworth questioned whether his "phone [has] been ringing" during the 49ers-Texans game on Thursday night, which was broadcast on Amazon Prime Video.
In the video clip shared on Twitter by Blogging The Boys, Whitworth is heard saying, "It has." "Well, there have been issues with the Cowboys and Tyron Smith's loss. Simply put, it's a bad deal. I've always enjoyed watching this man play because he is a terrific player. The day was hectic with fielding calls. They're contacting and texting the wrong person, which is the issue. They should text and phone Melissa Whitworth and the kids instead, as they have the last say in whether or not I ever play football again.
cowboys
Whitworth was never specific about who phoned or didn't call. As stated and recorded, his statements accurately reflected that the cowboys had phoned him.
Whitworth denied on Twitter that he had spoken with the Cowboys personally.
Whitworth said, "Not what I said. "I claimed that since the injury, I have returned calls and texts from folks. Pleading with me to visit the cowboys!
But that's not what he stated at all. If his phone has been busy, it was enquired of him. It has, he said. He especially addressed Tyron Smith and the Cowboys. He said that "they're calling and texting the incorrect person" and that his wife and children should be the ones they should be speaking to.
People will interpret "them
People will interpret "them" to refer to the Cowboys when they hear it. Whitworth shouldn't have allowed his statements to give the impression that the Cowboys called if they didn't.
Pregame show
Similar events occurred during the pregame show. But on behalf of everyone at Prime Video, Jerry Jones, if you're listening, don't even think about calling our man Andrew Whitworth, Michael Smith said as he threw a report on the Tyron Smith injury back to the desk. He is forbidden.
Whitworth was then questioned by Charissa Thompson, "How many texts have you received today?"
I'll admit it," Whitworth remarked, "my phone has been busy. The day has been busy.
Thompson continued, "A number is always there."
Whitworth stated, "There's a Melissa Whitworth number." And that's the issue they are facing.
So who exactly is the "they" in that conversation, especially in how Michael Smith set it up? Is "they" a collection of haphazard Cowboys fans calling Whitworth and pleading with him to join the team? Or are "they" the actual Cowboys?
Whitworth was slyly attempting to give the idea
At the very least, Whitworth was slyly attempting to give the idea that the Cowboys have been calling him when they haven't. At worst, the Cowboys were calling him while also flagrantly violating the rules against tampering.
Rams' reserve-retired list
The best justification for Whitworth's current denial that a Cowboys representative called him is that. Since he is on the Rams' reserve-retired list, no other team may sign him without the Rams' express approval. It wouldn't be nice for the Cowboys to get caught with both hands in the Andrew Whitworth cookie jar, considering that the NFL spanked the Dolphins and owner Stephen Ross three weeks ago for excessive tampering with Tom Brady and then explicitly admonished all teams to lay off the tampering two weeks ago.
Most logical football fans
Whitworth said what he said in either case. And what was mentioned by him is exactly what was posted above. Most logical football fans would read such remarks to suggest that the calls weren't coming from friends or family who were making connections but rather from specific people who wanted to link Whitworth to the team's offensive line on the left.
