The APGA Tour's presence in professional golf is still growing.
The Butterfield Bermuda APGA Championship, the tour's inaugural foreign competition, will take place from October 11–12 in conjunction with the PGA Tour. The competition will take place in Southampton, Bermuda's Port Royal Golf Course, which is also the PGA Tour's Butterfield Bermuda Championship, which runs from October 27 to 30.
APGA Circuit CEO Ken Bentley stated, "We are grateful to the Butterfield Bermuda Championship team and the Bermuda Tourism Authority for giving our players and our tour this chance. "We are thrilled to link our players with the PGA Tour in addition to allowing them to participate all through the week while promoting equality and inclusivity and highlighting what makes Bermuda a fantastic vacation destination.
The top 18 finishers on the circuit in the 2022 APGA Tour Lexus Cup standings will be included in the field.
During the regional qualifying round at Port Royal Golf Course, three local Bermudians will have the opportunity to qualify for the area. Daniel Augustus, a native of Bermuda, frequently participates on tour and is presently ranked No. 8 in the Lexus Cup rankings. The purse, at $60,000, will be the fourth-largest on the circuit.
Later this year, the APGA will collaborate with the PGA Tour more often than the Butterfield Bermuda APGA Championship.
Glen Echo Country will host an APGA tournament with the PGA Tour Champions. On September 8 and 9, Club in St. Louis, Missouri, will host the Ascension Charity Classic on the senior tour, which will be held at Norwood Hills Country Club in the same city.
Tim O'Neal, a veteran of the APGA Tour who has competed on the circuit since it began in 2010, will participate in the Ascension Charity Classic with a sponsor's exemption. On August 3, O'Neal turned 50.
The PGA Tour's World Wide Technology Championship in Mayakoba in Mexico in November will be open to the winner of the APGA tournament at Glen Echo.
"Partnering with [PGA Tour] and PGA Tour Champions and bringing that excitement into the APGA tournament is the key to their future," Executive Vice President of Ascension Nick Ragone said. "I believe it has already boosted the exposure and prizes, and I believe if more [PGA Tour] tournaments pair up, the APGA will attain full development CCCl status in a couple of years."
