After missing 2021, Iowa Speedway will host another doubleheader this year, with Josef Newgarden being the odds-on favorite at PointsBet Sportsbook for the race on Saturday.
Patricio O'Ward was just ahead of Newgarden the previous week. On the short oval, he is much more heavily favored with a line of +375 for the Hy-Veedeals.com 250. After placing seventh on Saturday in the 2020 doubleheader, Newgarden triumphed on Sunday. This season, he also succeeded in one of Texas Motor Speedway's two oval races.
With a $1 wager, a bettor will win $2.75 on Newgarden this week. For gamblers more accustomed to fractional odds, a chance of +300 is equivalent to 3/1.
This week, Scott Dixon and O'Ward are tied for second place with odds of +625 apiece as weekend events get underway.
Dixon comes into the weekend having finished in the top five in Iowa three times in a row, including two second-place finishes. In this year's inaugural IndyCar oval race in Texas, he came in fifth. Although Dixon was the favorite in both of this season's oval races, he hadn't won until last week on the Exhibition Place street course in Toronto.
O'Ward came in the fourth position in 2020 on Saturday but did not do as well on Sunday, finishing in 12th. He makes up for that shortcoming with a flawless run of top-five finishes on ovals in 2021 and a second-place performance in this year's Indy 500. Last year, O'Ward triumphed at Texas.
Colton Herta is a close fourth with a line of +700. Herta's performance in his three Iowa starts has been poor. His best performance on this track was 18th in the 2019 race. He finished 19th in both of the 2020 events. Herta only managed one top-10 finish in four outings last year and failed to place in either of the two oval races of 2022.

The top five are completed by Alex Palou, who has a line of +775. Palou has had six oval starts since the 2021 season began, and in only one of those starts, she failed to place in the top 10. With the best finish of seventh in Texas, he has not yet finished inside the top five in either of this season's first two oval races.
