BETHESDA, Maryland After breaking her putter at the par-5 sixth hole in the KPMG Women's PGA Championship opening at Congressional Country Club, Emma Talley completed the next three spots with a 58-degree wedge.
Talley tapped her putter on her left shoe after making bogey on the hole, something she claims she does routinely out of habit after a missed opportunity. However, the putter snapped this time.
After her round, Talley remarked, "Yeah, that was just a random accident." I whacked my putter on my toe, but it wasn't even that hard. I wish I had broken it out of crazy, but it wasn't even that bad.
Talley bogeyed two of the final three holes while putting with her wedge, finishing with a 6-over 78.
She thinks the club broke quickly on Thursday due to her long-standing habit of tapping her putter repeatedly on her toe and tapping sand off her shoe after exiting a greenside bunker.
Talley might have continued to use the damaged putter because of a recent change to the Rules of Golf.
However, Talley said after her round that the putter had broken off to a length of approximately a foot, making it difficult for her to use.
Talley started crying on the course following the event, and she was still crying when she spoke with a group of reporters after her round. She claims that the tears were primarily caused by shame because she doesn't want her fans, especially young ones, to perceive her like a furious golfer.
When demanded how she knew about the incident, Talley stated, "Obviously, you want to shed light when you're out here, and like, if people didn't see what occurred, they would think I probably snapped it over my leg." "Embarrassment. all of it
