(AP) — NOTTINGHAM, England — After completing their quarterfinal matches on Saturday, Alison Riske and Beatriz Haddad Maia would compete for the Nottingham Open title.
Riske, the sixth-seeded American, defeated Viktorija Golubic 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 in a monsoon match and will play for her fourth title in the grass-court tournament final on Sunday.
When Tereza Martincova was forced into retirement in the second set, Haddad Maia, the seventh-seeded Brazilian, advanced; Haddad Maia was ahead 6-3, 4-1 and will play in her second WTA final nearly five years after coming in second place at the Korea Open in 2017.
Later Saturday, the men's semifinals will be played, with top-seeded Dan Evans of the United Kingdom facing Jack Sock of the United States and Jordan Thompson facing Alexei Popyrin in an all-Australian match.
