Joe Flacco
Joe Flacco will start at quarterback for the Jets against the Ravens on Sunday and for all of their September contests as long as he can play.
The Jets want Wilson to participate in practice
Wilson won't be available until Week 4 at the earliest, according to Jets head coach Robert Saleh, who spoke at a press conference just after the news that Flacco will start in Week One emerged. Wilson underwent meniscus surgery after suffering a knee injury in the team's first preseason game. He is now rehabilitating.
The Jets want Wilson to participate in practice in the upcoming weeks, so he won't be placed on injured reserve.
The timeframe differs significantly from recent statements made by Saleh and the Jets. According to every report from the organization, Wilson had a chance to play in the opener, but it now seems it was just misinformation regarding the team's intentions.
Bengals home in Week
The Jets play the Bengals home in Week Three after hosting the Ravens in Cleveland. If Wilson is out into October, they will play the Steelers on the road in Week Four, giving Flacco a lengthy trip down his AFC North memory lane.
However, a prolonged absence leaves the door to the possibility that the team may do well enough under Flacco that some may argue against upsetting the apple cart. The Jets have insisted that Wilson will serve as the team's quarterback as soon as he is well enough to play. Wilson's second NFL season wouldn't go as planned, even though it would benefit the Jets in the standings.
