Denzel Mims, a wide receiver with the Jets who was selected in the second round of the 2020 draught, has not performed as well as many expected in his first two seasons.
While Mims missed time due to illness and injury throughout his first two seasons, he caught 31 receptions for 490 yards in his 20 regular season outings. He has not experienced any health problems this summer, and head coach Robert Saleh has praised him for how hard he has worked.
Mims confirmed a new strategy in his training to achieve his objective of being the starting receiver this season.
As promised, Mims replied, referring to the team's website. I wasn't able to return to where I was last year because of the illness. I put in a tone of effort throughout the winter to prepare for this season.
I believe I've improved as a receiver in every way. I've worked hard to catch everything I can and become the best receiver possible.
As much as possible, starting might not be in Mims' near future with the presence of Garrett Wilson, Elijah Moore, and Corey Davis, as well as the first-round pick.
Though it would be a significant step in the right way for the wideout, securing a place as a contributor at any level should increase the likelihood that this becomes a reality at some time in the future.
