Stuttgart, Deutschland: In the second round against the Stuttgart Open, Matteo Berrettini beat Radu Albot 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 to make his injury comeback.
Having undergone right-hand surgery in March, the second seed was playing in his first match.
Despite dominating the first set, the Italian fell in the second. He held at all in the first leg of the third set, fending off two break points, and went on to win the set within only under two hours.
In the quarterfinals of the grass-court tournament, Berrettini will face both compatriot Lorenzo Sonego's favourite, Jan-Lennard Struff.
The tournament was won by Frenchman Benjamin Bonzi, who defeated his compatriot Arthur Rinderknech in the quarterfinals. He will face both fourth-seeded Denis Shapovalov or German player Oscar Otte.
Against Lorenzo Musetti, Nikoloz Basilashvili won the final first-round match. Due to the weather, their match was called off. Basedilashvili won both matches required to meet Nick Kyrgios in the second round.
