BJ McLeod’s chief suspended
The 78 Ford had a right rear-wheel drive on the Talladega Superspeedway on the Lap 87, sending the car around the Turn 2 exit shortly after the restart. Others set aside as part of the fine are Jackman Alpha Lamin and Kevin Teaf, who replace the rear tires.
Loss of a wheel violates section 10.5.2.6 of the NASCAR rulebook, which states: “Loss or misalignment of the tire/wheels/tires improperly installed in a vehicle will result in the suspension of four Union personnel and two other team members.”
The fine for members of the McLeod team passes through the May 22 All-Star Race at the Texas Motor Speedway.
Kaz Grala and Justin Haley both lost tires in Daytona 500. Todd Gilliland suffered a similar setback a week at Auto Club Speedway before Corey LaJoie lost one in Phoenix. Bubba Wallace lost a wheel at the Circuit of The Americas on March 27. Wallace returns crew chief Bootie Barker to the pit box this weekend at Dover Motor Speedway.
Haley’s Kaulig Racing team and Gilliland’s Front Row Motorsports program appealed their fines, but the National Motorsports Appeals Panel approved both.
