Two gunshot wounds to his lower extremities are being treated in a nearby hospital for Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr.
The organization announced in a statement late Sunday night that he had been shot during an attempted carjacking or armed robbery in Washington, D.C.
The statement adds, "We have been informed that Brian Robinson Jr. was the victim of an attempted armed robbery or carjacking in Washington, D.C." "Team representatives are present with him as he receives treatment at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Please respect Brian's privacy at this time; we ask.
According to Nicki Jhabvala of The Washington Post, coach Ron Rivera, owners Dan, and Tanya Snyder, president Jason Wright, general manager Martin Mayhew, chief medical officer Tony Casolaro, and director of mental health Barbara Roberts are all present at the hospital.
Rivera made a social media update.
I've just finished seeing Brian, Rivera wrote. He asked me to thank everyone for their nice comments, prayers, and support because he was in high spirits. He wants his teammates to know that he loves them all, appreciates their efforts, and will return to doing what he does best shortly.
Robinson's Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat was attempted to be stolen by the suspects, according to investigators who spoke to NBCWashington.com.
Two male suspects are still at large, according to the police, who claimed to have found a gun at the crime scene.
