The age of Calais Campbell will soon reach 36. His fifteenth season is now.
The defensive lineman is unsure about his remaining capacity.
Right now, I'm simply taking this year as it comes. On Friday, Campbell told NFL Media, "I know I can do this year. I plan to empty the tank and leave it all on the field after that, even though I'm unsure whether there will be anything left.
After this season, I'll meet again in the offseason to assess where I stand. I'm prepared, nevertheless, as though this is my last year. I'll therefore give it everything I've got.
Last season, Campbell recorded a career-low 1.5 sacks. He was not selected to the Pro Bowl or All-Pro team since 2013.
He signed a two-year contract in April, but no money is left on it that is guaranteed for 2023.
If this is his final year, he wants to go on a high note.
Well, Campbell responded, "We've got a lot of parts." There are lots of playmakers here. All around the field, the roster is extremely deep. Men were making plays one after the other.
But Lamar (Jackson) is where it all begins, followed, in my opinion, by our DBs and D-line. We have an excellent balance of seasoned football players who know how to compete and win and young players who are eager to succeed—just a decent distribution of high-caliber guys throughout the field.
