After the first round of the playoff series, Cam Smith gave a faint hint about his plans.
Smith told Sky Sports he was ready to "take some criticism" for his choices after shooting a first-round 67 at the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
The world No. 2 and defending Open champion Smith, according to a report from The Telegraph published earlier this week, was expected to leave for LIV Golf when the playoffs were over after allegedly getting a nine-figure signing fee.
Smith said that he had no comment on the report and was only concerned with the FedExCup when questioned repeatedly by a reporter at TPC Southwind. The unpleasant conversation did little to quell rumors regarding his future.
Smith told Sky Sports' Nick Dougherty on Thursday, "their job, mate, and that's what they're there to do." They're there to sell stories, and I'm sure they've recently looked at it a few times.
"I'm prepared to face criticism. Although I know everything I've said, my goal is to win the FedExCup playoffs. That is my main objective. I'll be responsible for anything that occurs after that.
With a solid chance to win the $18 million first-place prize, Smith entered the postseason as the No. 2 seed. His predicted position after the 3-under start is fifth.
