Amari Cooper, the Cowboys' starting receiver who seemed to have 68 touchdowns for 865 yards and eight scores last season, was moved. Randy Gregory, the starting defensive end who already had six sacks, interception, and three forced fumbles the previous season, signed a free-agent contract. Beginning linebacker La'el Collins and kicker Greg Zuerlein were cut by the Cowboys while starting left defender Greg Zuerlein and #3 receiver Cedrick Wilson signed free agency deals.

On paper, the Cowboys don't appear to become as strong as the 2021 side that dominated the NFC East.

Prescott told Jon Machota said, "We understand whatever we have had in this locker room and what we can be." "Talent is indeed one thing, but it's meaningless if you don't put it to use." So we've got young players who haven't had an opportunity to build a reputation for themselves based on their names and other information. I'm delighted for confident guys to be capable of accomplishing this and proving their critics wrong.

We didn't pause for a moment at all. We're going to keep improving; that's what this preseason is all about and moving forward."

The Cowboys' best news is that they would be able to maintain coaches Kellen Moore and Dan Quinn, yet they still have the division's most accomplished quarterback.
