The championship might be sealed if Tomac finishes ahead of Jason Anderson and Justin Barcia next week. On the infield layout of Atlanta Motor Speedway, Tomac finished second in both his heat and feature, with little to gain from overriding his Yamaha. Tomac could keep Anderson in the race despite this, finishing 2.3 seconds behind the winner.
The Triple Crown triumph in St. Louis has helped Marvin Musquin enhance his results.
Justin Barcia ranked third and finished sixth in the Atlanta feature, his first finish outside the top five in 45 days.
Barcia has two heat wins and the best result of the second in feature competition at Indianapolis.
In the Triple Crown format, he also won one of the three features in St. Louis.

The Monster Energy Supercross Series had its first East / West Shootout in Atlanta with three rounds remaining in the season, allowing the two divisions to battle for bragging rights.
This division was the clear winner, with five of the top six riders, including Hunter Lawrence, hailing from that division.
The Power Rankings look at the entire season rather than the last 45 days because of the grouping of races, and Lawrence has been nearly perfect with top-five finishes in all bar the feature in the third Anaheim race. That miscalculation was enough to drop him to fourth place overall.
Christian Craig and Jett Lawrence remained at the top of their respective divisions regarding both points and Power Ranking. Both riders overcame slow starts in the Atlanta feature to finish third.
Craig came in second in the main event and won his heat. Only once this season, when he finished fourth in one of the Triple Crown events in Glendale, Arizona, has he failed to make the podium in 18 combined heats and features.
Craig currently holds the top spot in the Supercross Power Rankings. Jett Lawrence crashed out of his heat but finished sixth in the race. He also went down in the feature but remounted and finished third after a thrilling last-lap overtake on Jo Shimoda.
Michael Mosiman moved from seventh to third this week after finishing third in the West heat and sixth in the combined feature.
RJ Hampshire rounds out the top five, having dropped one position overall due to an eighth-place finish in the Atlanta feature.
In his first race back since suffering an injury in the Texas Triple Crown, Austin Forkner returned to the top ten overall with a heat win and a seventh-place feature finish on the infield circuit at Atlanta.
