The Broncos are attempting to correct the situation after head coach Nathaniel Hackett made a number of dubious game-management choices in his first two games on the job.
According to Mike Klis of 9 News, Jerry Rosburg has been recruited by the Broncos with the position of senior assistant. He will sit in the booth during games and counsel Hackett on his decision-making.
Rosburg stayed in Denver all week and covered Broncos workouts, but the hiring wasn't formalised until Friday. For the 49ers game on Sunday night, Rosburg will be the announcer.
Hackett built in his first season
Questions have been raised about whether the coaching staff, which Hackett built in his first season as head coach and has relatively little experience, is capable of making the best choices in the high-pressure setting of games. These concerns were raised in specific light of the Broncos' odd decision to let the clock run down at the conclusion of their Week One loss to the Seahawks before attempting a 64-yard, goal. In Week Two, disgruntled Broncos supporters started keeping track of the seconds left on the play clock in an effort to help the offence avoid delay of game penalties.
The 66-year-old Rosburg spent his final 11 seasons as a head coach with the Ravens, serving in that capacity from 2008 to 2018.
