Jaguars on Sunday
Nothing went right in the Colts' 24-0 loss to the Jaguars on Sunday, so it's not surprising that Matt Ryan had a poor day.
The quarterback, who is 37 years old, only completed 16 of his 30 passes for 195 yards. Although he fumbled once and was sacked five times, Indianapolis didn't surrender the ball.
However, on Monday, head coach Frank Reich showed faith in his quarterback, pointing out that much of what went wrong occurred around Ryan.
"I mean, yesterday's defense wasn't our best work. Several times, he was subject to coercion, according to Reich's news conference. "He still makes mistakes, as do we all, but overall, I believe — listen, I know how the quarterback position is. Since you're in the center of it, you have to make it work even though you're truly dependent on everyone else there.
Chiefs is scheduled for Week
"I adore Matt because he accepts responsibility. He is in charge. I am delighted that he is our quarterback. He is an excellent leader, and I have no doubt that he will contribute significantly to this offense as a player. We must all work together to achieve this. Everybody involved in that offense, including him, must shoulder their fair share of the burden.
Ryan has completed 60% of his throws for 547 yards and one touchdown in the first two weeks. He has also thrown four interceptions, five fumbles, and lost one fumble.
Another challenging game against the Chiefs is scheduled for Week Three for the 0-1-1 Colts.
