The Colts
The Colts seem prepared to challenge for the AFC South title.
Shaquille Leonard's
Shaquille Leonard's availability to begin the season remains unknown because rosters must be cut to 53 players by Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET.
The Colts' last preseason game
Before the Colts' last preseason game against the Buccaneers this past weekend, Leonard was able to participate in an on-field practice, which head coach Frank Reich deemed "extremely encouraging."
Reich spoke
Reich spoke to James Boyd of TheAthletic.com, "Shaq, we were just talking about this — from the start of OTAs, from the start of training camp, has been the ultimate pro." His professionalism and leadership maturity have both been on full display. I don't believe he could have done anything more to position himself for the shortest recovery possible.
The practice field
"Now the only question is when he can be cleared to come off of PUP and return to the practice field, and after that, how long will it take once he returns to the field? The exact number of days is unknown. On it, we could make projections. That probably isn't worth doing, in my opinion. I only know that Shag has taken every precaution to cut down on the length of [his recovery] time, however long that may be. He has been a fantastic leader and professional.
Leonard needs to be taken off the PUP
Reich has previously stated that Leonard needs to be taken off the PUP list so he may practice even if he is not quite ready to play.
The Colts must make a crucial choice regarding Leonard the following day.
