Russell Wilson's return to Seattle
Geno Smith is back, eight years after his last stint as a regular starter. At least right now. He is the Seahawks' starting quarterback to begin the season, but coach Pete Carroll has stated that the competition is far from done.
Smith will nevertheless start the match in Week 1. which also happens to be Russell Wilson's return to Seattle.
Smith told reporters on Friday, "I'm very happy. "I can't wait. I'm thrilled about the opportunity, but mainly for the men, so we could all start our season together. It's pretty thrilling. Although I am aware that everyone in this room is thrilled, I don't personally feel any sort of satisfaction or anything similar. More often than not, I'm just getting ready and going about my daily business. I'm not trying to make it into something more.
I.K. Enemkpali in 2015
Regardless of how things turn out, Smith has come a long way since being hit in the jaw by former Jets linebacker I.K. Enemkpali in 2015, a punch that ultimately terminated Smith's time as the starting quarterback in New York.
Regarding how he has changed since he was a starter, Smith remarked, "I'm in my 30s now. I was then between the ages of 23 and 24. My current focus is on keeping the football in good condition and protecting it. I remember thinking I would have good and bad games when I was a member of the Jets. It was erratic, but I could establish some consistency in my play, and I believe that began with my feet and my base in the pocket. Of course, I've become more vital in my profession and as a man. Afterward, simply keep the football safe. I watched a lot of football. I am aware of what I am seeing. I'm no longer just the rookie I was when I first entered the league; I'm the seasoned player in the room today.
After serving as Russell Wilson's backup for two years, Smith takes over
Smith declared, "My time here with Russ was amazing." I learned a lot about him. I grew close to his family. He learned about mine. And one quality that I would say I inherited from him is his professionalism, how he handled each day and his competitive spirit. You are perfectly aware of his personality both on and off the field. You could say a lot of amazing things about him, in my opinion. I treasured the time we spent competing together. We engaged in a lot of competition. You name it whether in the classroom, the weight room, or the field, and I believe that improved me. I gained a lot of knowledge from him just by being around him and getting to know his personality and manner of preparation.
Smith claimed that he didn't stop to think about starting again
Smith stated that there was no party or anything similar. "The next day, if I was going to do it anyhow, I went to the gym. And that's just the way I think. I'm not very impressed or anything by this chance. I've been working nonstop, and I believe the job is more significant than all of the introspection and other things. It involves attending to business. Naturally, I'm thankful and appreciative for everything I've worked for, but I also realize more work needs to be done.
After Wilson had a finger injury against the Rams on a Thursday night the previous season, Smith had some work to do. By the game's end, the audience chanted Smith's name. Wilson was out for several weeks, but Smith performed admirably.
He will now compete with Wilson
Wilson's impending return was addressed by Smith, who stated that it was impossible to ignore it. "I am aware of everything going on in our environment. For a while, Russell was the man in charge here. I am aware that there will be felt on both sides, but I'm not one of them. All of my attention is on taking care of business.
We'll find out if Smith can handle the situation in three nights.
