George Odum
The NFL gave George Odum of the San Francisco 49ers a $5,305 fine for wearing an improperly covered knee during a preseason game versus the Vikings. Odum claims that is absurd.
Odum tweeted a photo of himself wearing jeans that correctly covered his knees and socks and claimed that the NFL was still fining him despite that.
Odum wrote, "So I got fined 5,000." The NFL is something different, yeah. Speaking of my uncovered knees, Where?"
knee was covered
Despite Odum's photographic proof that his knee was covered, the NFL maintained in its formal letter that this was not the case.
NFL's letter
According to the NFL's letter, you broke the NFL uniform and equipment rules during the San Francisco 49ers-Minnesota Vikings game on August 20, 2022. "Specifically, the knee portion of your jeans was exposed. According to Rule 5, Section 4, Article 3, Item (4) of the National Football League's 2022 Official Playing Rules, pants must cover the full knee region; they may not be rolled up or shorted above the knee.
Did the NFL punish Odum?
So why, despite his photographic proof, did the NFL punish Odum? It has displayed Odum's knee at some other time throughout the contest. However, there's a chance that this was a case of mistaken identity because another 49ers player can be seen standing behind Odum in the picture with his knee exposed. Although the identity of the individual in the image is unclear, Odum may have been issued a teammate's fine if the player was mistaken for him.
