Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Gervonta Davis made another spectacular presentation this Saturday. Tank defeated Rolando Romero by a technical knockout in the sixth round of a scheduled 12-round lightweight fight. Davis retained his World Boxing Association (WBA) 135-pound title and improved his perfect record to 27-0-0 with 25 knockouts with the win.
Gervonta only landed 25 punches during the contest, but he had one to settle. And he was brutal. His counter-punching and intelligence were the keys to his victory.
The first round was a study; however, Romero closed with a clean right hand. Davis was not resented.
The actions grew in intensity in the second round. Rollie and Tank took massive hits. Rolando caught Gervonta off balance and knocked him down with his right hand. And near the end of the episode, Davis rocked Romero by countering him with a powerful left hook that nearly doubled him over.
In the third and fourth rounds, things were pretty even. Tank countered everything Rollie sent.
By lap five, Romero grew in confidence and got closer to Davis. But Gervonta made him pay by connecting with two dangerous left hands. Tank seemed to hurt his left hand in this episode, but it didn't go too far.
In the sixth round, Davis was preparing Romero for the outcome early. I was expecting an error, and that's what happened. Romero lunged forward unprotected to hit Davis with a right hand to the body, but there he has sentenced thanks to Tank's deadly counterpunch.
