Harmony Tan
French tennis player Harmony Tan hit the table by knocking out American Serena Williams in the first round of the Wimbledon tournament, ruining Williams' return to the court after a year-long absence.
Tan came with a particular disadvantage as she was an opponent as experienced and capable as Williams is. However, she knew that the lack of pace and the setting would be critical factors in winning.
Williams
From the beginning, there was a battle where both tennis players left everything on the court. Being the French won the first set with a final score of 7-5.
Williams made up ground for the second set by comfortably beating the Frenchwoman 6-1, forcing a decisive third set to determine who would face Sorribes Tomo in the second round.
Neither player gave in, and they took the set to a tie break, where Tan beat Williams to win the second-round spot.
Wimbledon
Harmony Tan will face the Spanish Sorribes Tormo next Thursday, June 30, in the tournament's second round, while Williams leaves this with a disappointment of the 2022 edition of Wimbledon.
