Henrik Stenson was eager to concentrate on the next stage of his career as a member of LIV Golf on Thursday after being relieved of his role as European Ryder Cup captain.
Stenson expressed his disappointment with Ryder Cup Europe's decision but said he was ready to move on to the rival tour in a press conference at Trump Bedminster, where he will make his debut.
Stenson told reporters, "I made every preparation here to be able to fulfill my captain's obligations, and I've had excellent cooperation here from LIV to accomplish that. "But even so, it was decided that I would be fired. I'm dissatisfied with the circumstances. However, it is what it is, and we proceed from there now.
Stenson decided to fully commit to the European Ryder Cup leadership in March despite being connected to LIV Golf for months. When LIV's maiden season began last month, rumors of Stenson, 46, signing with the fledgling league quickly spread.
Stenson declined to comment on whether his contract with Ryder Cup Europe barred him from accepting a deal with LIV on Thursday.
He declared, "I'm not going to go into depth on the contract between the captain and Ryder Cup Europe since it's a private arrangement.
Ryder Cup Europe has already sought a replacement for Stenson because he has been dismissed from his position. The finalist for the job, Luke Donald, will take over as captain in 2023, according to The Telegraph. A formal announcement is anticipated in the coming days.
When asked about his thoughts on the alleged appointment of Donald, Stenson responded, "That's news to me." Naturally, I'm not up to date on these matters at this time. If that's the case, I don't feel I should comment until it becomes official news.
The eligibility of Stenson, who dropped to No. 173 in the world, and the other European LIV defectors to participate in the biennial matches next fall is still in the air.
The DP World Tour has not declared its players ineligible, unlike the PGA Tour, which has permanently suspended any player who took part in a LIV tournament. The BMW PGA Championship, a Ryder Cup qualifying tournament, will be held at Wentworth, the home of the DP World Tour, according to Lee Westwood.
Westwood expressed his hope that the European Tour would decide as soon as possible.
Everyone should know their position as soon as possible, whether they compete on the PGA Tour, the LIV Tour, or the European Tour.
Ian Poulter continued, "We're not exactly sure where the qualification criteria lie. I think we're all still qualified to participate. As far as I'm aware, no formal decision has been made.
Sam Horsfield, Poulter, and Westwood make up his four-person LIV team, which Westwood leads.
