They carried out the first 32 selections of the 2022 NFL Draft, and, as an immediate reaction, these are the biggest winners. You can also click on this article to meet the losers.
Derek Stingley Jr.
Having become the third overall selection in this draft is a real prize for him since, after a previous process full of doubts about his game loss and injury, he confirmed that the league still sees him as a lockdown corner.
We can say that the environment in which he arrives is challenging since the Texans have a lot to improve, but doing it with a player as outstanding as him is a step in the right direction.
Howie Roseman, the general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, continues to dominate the draft. He entered the process with three selections and, after trading with the Saints a few weeks ago, ended up with only two (15 and 18). Already with the first round underway, they moved up from position 15 to 13, giving the Texans only three selections; fourth and two-fifths, keeping the 18th available in addition to his multiple first-round picks from next year. The player they added here was Jordan Davis, a true phenomenon for the center of their defensive line.
Then, they used the 18th pick to package up with the 101st (one of the picks they received in the initial trade with the Saints) to get AJ Brown, a wide receiver who changes the face of their offense.
With these moves, Roseman looks like a true trading genius.
3. New York Jets
This team made three picks in the first round, which increased their chances of being called winners; however, the players they took and the order they got them were excellent.
First, Robert Saleh gets a corner that will allow him to play the style of defense he loves so much, selecting Ahmad Gardner at No. 4. Later they take Garrett Wilson, who could become the first choice of a receiving corps that already has Corey Davis and Elijah Moore. The icing on the cake takes place when they return to the first game giving up a second, third and fifth to the Titans to move up to 26th and take Jermaine Johnson, a player they considered taking on their previous two picks.
This third of players will become immediate starters and could make a difference in the team soon.
Baltimore Ravens
What has been done by this team draws attention to the quality of their players. First, without having to move or maneuver, Kyle Hamilton lands in position 14, a player who, by sheer talent, is one of the best in the entire class and seems to fit perfectly with the organization's identity.
Later, they get a second pick in the first round from the Cardinals, who give it to them in exchange for Marquise Brown. With that pick, they take Tyler Lindenbaum, the best center in the class.
That's how they took one of the best players in the class and the best interior offensive lineman this year.
5. Kansas City Chiefs
The path followed by this team was excellent. They came into this draft with two picks in each of the first four rounds and were expected to move to get the players they wanted the most.
And that's just what they did in jumping from 29th to 21st to take Trent McGuffey, who by many was the third-best cornerback in the class and a perfect fit for defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo's style of play. Later, at position 30, they take on George Harlaftis, who fills the gap created by the departure of Melvin Ingram to pressure the QB.
By adding two players on the defensive side of the ball, the team answers the very high demands of the AFC West division's offenses.
These are, for us, the winners of the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. Is anyone leftover or missing from this list? We are waiting for you in the comments below this article and on our social networks.
