Ballon d'Or does Leo Messi
The Argentine is the footballer who has won the Ballon d'Or the most times since its creation in 1956
This October 17, the Ballon d'Or corresponding to the 2021/2022 season will be awarded to Messi, and Cristiano Ronaldo does not appear among the candidates to win the special award.
Precisely Leo Messi is the biggest collector of the Ballon d'Or. Since he won the first one back in 2009, there have been many nights tinged with gold that the Argentine star has had throughout a career to remember.
At DAZN, we want to do a quick review of the Ballon d'Or, Leo Messi's record in this regard and much more.
WHAT IS THE BALLON D'OR?
It is an award given annually by the French magazine France Football to the best player of the calendar year. It is considered the world's greatest individual recognition at a football level.
What are the differences between the Ballon d'Or and The Best?
The Ballon d'Or was created in 1956 by Gabriel Hanot, then magazine director. In openings, the prize was desired only for players of European nationality who played in Europe.
As of 1995, non-European footballers who played in any European league were also eligible. In 2007, all restrictions were lifted, and any player from anywhere in the world could win the prize.
Englishman Stanley Matthews
Englishman Stanley Matthews was the first player in history to receive the award. Ronaldo Nazario was the starting game player not born in Europe to succeed in 1997.
Cristiano Ronaldo (5): 2008, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.

WOMEN'S BALLON D'OR
The female category of the Ballon d'Or was not established until 2010 when this award was merged with the FIFA World Player of the Year to form the FIFA Ballon d'Or.
Before 2001, FIFA did award an annual award to the best player, but neither this award nor the previous one counted in the history of the women's Ballon d'Or, which was not established until 2018.
This award is given on the same day as the male award.
