Matthew Stafford
The Rams have made it clear that quarterback Matthew Stafford has "no limitations" for Week One due to a persistent elbow ailment. The main query is whether restrictions will appear during Week 2 or later.
The elbow is having a problem. That is undeniable. Stafford purposefully paused when discussing it with reporters recently after saying, "[I] still think there's... I don't know."
Here is his knowledge. He underwent an elbow operation in the off-season. After receiving the injection, he wore a brace to lessen elbow soreness.
For some reason, on Thursday morning, that old news was repackaged and presented as brand-new.
According to insiders, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford had an elbow operation done in the off-season to help him recover from last season's injury and get ready for this one. Stafford reportedly feels better today than last year, despite concerns about his elbow.
Uncertainty surrounds Schefter's quota-filling gaffe or an attempt to promote the team's Serenity in exchange for something else. Now, as the season approaches, say something about Stafford.
It's all good. It's all good. It's all right.
There is still cause for worry. The Rams kept Stafford out of team drills during several practices last month to figure out what they believed to be a baseball injury. He was eventually able to take part in workouts completely. He is now prepared to participate in a game. What happens if he throws 20 or 30 or 40 or more times tomorrow, applying pressure to his elbow that he hasn't since February, and his elbow is throbbing or not?
Take a look at Schefter's final tweet. The latest reports indicate that Stafford is feeling better than last year. That doesn't always mean he's perfect. It just implies that he has improved from a year ago since he was able to get through training camp without taking a lot of time off from team activities to protect his elbow.
Although the Rams claim there are no restrictions, it's reasonable to wonder if they are purposefully hiding the truth (i.e., lying) to prevent the Bills from being prepared for, say, a run-heavy attack that safeguards Stafford's elbow and keeps Buffalo's potent offense on the sidelines tonight.
Whatever the reason, the reality remains that there has been a problem with the elbow for months. It appears that the problem is still present. Stafford's ability to play well despite whatever discomfort he may feel from Week One through Week 18 and beyond is one of the biggest uncertainties looming over the Rams for the 2022 season.
