Major plotlines
Tottenham have performed nowhere near their full ability, despite being unbeaten after seven games (six in the Premier League). Except for their hammering of Southampton on the first day, it's been a similar story: slow to start (also happened against Saints), better but not terrific after the half, and finally, the goal they needed. Of course, there is also the fact that Spurs have only conceded five goals in six games, which is the second-fewest in the Premier League, and have won all but one game (the draw away to Chelsea). It was foolish to have higher expectations during Conte's first entire season.
Even though Tottenham came from behind to finish fourth last season, they were at moments last season more spacious and free-flowing (especially toward the end). Now, however, after a complete preseason of rigorous tactical training, it is evident that Conte intends to do what he always does: narrowly win games in which they were in control of the game's outcome to be in front of the pack after the season.
