Rhein Gibson first appeared in 2012. Alexander Hughes followed in 2020. Andrew Ruthkoski, a native of Michigan, has joined the select group of golfers to shoot a world-record 55.
Ruthkoski played his 55 at the par-72 Oak Ridge Golf Club in Muskegon, Michigan, while Gibson and Hughes both shot their 55s on par-71 golf courses, ironically, in Oklahoma.
According to the Detroit News, Ruthkoski, a local professional who intends to compete in a pre-qualifier for the John Deere Classic, teed off in the evening with his twin stepdaughters. Around 8:45 p.m., the girls had to return the cart, but he couldn't stop because they had only completed six holes.
After all, he had completed six holes in 9 under par. That's correct. In his first six holes, he made three eagles and three birdies.
Ruthkoski was accompanied for the remainder of his trip by a buddy who had a cart and lived nearby.
Ruthkoski shot 11 under on the front nine after making back-to-back parses at Nos. 7 and 8. She then added another eagle at the straightforward par-4 ninth hole. At Oak Ridge, 11 under was the previous course record for 18 holes. Who holds the record there? Andrew Ruthkoski, as you probably figured.
The Michigan guy played with house money on the back nine and earned six more birdies to finish at 17-under after having tied his record through nine holes.
