Three of Golden State's stars
Box scoring didn't look too good for three of Golden State's stars, with Stephen Curry, Andrew Wiggins, and Jordan Poole combining to shoot 3-for-25.
That's not ideal for fans out to see the big names, but the Warriors couldn't care less about those numbers. They care about how James Wiseman looks every second he's on the court, and he sure looked good Friday.
That's a misleading description, to be fair. Wiseman did not do any actual shooting. Five of his eight buckets were overturned. Everything else was on edge, except for his final two, a sweet little six-foot baby hook.
The Golden State's impromptu, always-on-the-go actions, and while he can hit a jumper
Golden State's impromptu, always-on-the-go actions, and while he can hit jumpers, he seemed too focused on proving that he could make shots that defenses would happily accept.
Steve Kerr is a pick-and-roll coach, and this isn't something defenses.
This is simpler. Let the boy be an athlete. That pick and roll with Stephen Curry tease the possibilities of that duo. As we know, Steve Kerr isn't a pick-and-roll coach, and this isn't something defenses will have to figure out quickly, as several defenders are forced to stick with Curry as one of the top finishers.
Kevon Looney
Kevon Looney is the starting center right now, and he's fantastic. He knows the Warrior's system inside and out. He knows how to play Curry, anticipating passes and cuts and DHOs as Curry runs ragged defenders.
That's too much for Wiseman to process at this point in his career.
He'll spend a lot of time with Curry, and I suspect Kerr will play Curry more on the ball these minutes, so the entire offense isn't about setting Curry up, forcing Wiseman to think more than Kerr would like.
Wiseman can be an athlete with Curry on the ball, running to the rim.
Let's not make too much of a preseason game, but as first impressions of the hopefully new and improved Wiseman, this was a good one.
