Jason Anderson took Round 2 of the 2022 Lucas Oil Motocross season at Hangtown in Rancho Cordova, Calif., with a Moto 1 win and a third-place finish in the second race and moved up to third in the rankings. Anderson's first Motocross victory came in his 13th season of racing.
With his second-place overall finish, Sexton increased his point lead over Roczen to 12.
In Moto 1, Tomac got off to a poor start and ended fourth, narrowly off the podium. His victory in Moto 2 was enough to put him in third place.

"To get up there, I had to put in a lot of effort." (in the second moto)," Anderson stated from the top of the podium. "To be honest, I thought I'd only made the podium, but once I got off the track, I realised it was a win." It took 12 years longer than we should have, but we ultimately finished it. "I'm overjoyed."
Moto 1 got off to a fast start, with the leaders dispersed. Anderson got a little extra speed around three-quarters of the way through the race and chased down last week's winner, Chase Sexton. Sexton lost momentum in traffic while attempting to pass a lapped rider, allowing Anderson to take advantage. Sexton kept Anderson in sight as the two combatants manoeuvred traffic.
Anderson came in third in Moto 2, over 27 seconds behind Eli Tomac, but it was enough to secure him the overall victory.
Sexton was a model of consistency, finishing second in both motos. Sexton dominated laps early in the second race after taking the lead from Honda teammate Ken Roczen. Sexton, like in the first race, did not allow the leader to develop a piece of meaningful information and finished a little more than a second behind.
"Today, I just couldn't get away from them," Sexton explained. "I led several laps but couldn't win." Overall, I'm pleased with my riding. It was beneficial for me to demonstrate some grit. I still have the red plate and only need to replace it.
The winner of Moto 1 finished sixth in the overall standings after colliding early in the second race and finishing 39th.
Lawrence got off to a sluggish start in the first race due to illness before hooking up with his brother Hunter Lawrence and moving forward. He took the lead early in Moto 2, but a determined Jo Shimoda was pursuing him down until he crossed the ruts and crashed. Jett then raced unchallenged for the rest of the race.
"Today has been a tough one," Lawrence added. "Being unwell made things harder for me, and I puked before the second moto." I was pushing through the second moto. It was a trying day, but I'm okay now.
Justin Cooper took the holeshot in both motos but could not maintain his position. He swept the podium and soared to fourth place in the rankings, but the Lawrence brothers' strong start in the first two races had him 35 points behind Jett and 24 points behind Hunter.
With a 4-2 finish, Hunter's second-place performance in Moto 2 propelled him to the final spot on the overall podium. Shimoda's mishap helped him gain a better position in the second race, but he did not let Jett ride away and finished 2.2 seconds behind.
Hunter was also sick on the ride.
"Jett and I have both been sick, so it's been difficult, but not a bad day for a horrible day," Lawrence explained. "My starts have been poor, but we'll work on them and return next weekend with a bang." I'm happy with my riding, and we'll attempt to put a challenge in front of Jett."
Shimoda came in fourth after remounting after falling in the second race. After finishing fifth in Race 1, he finished fourth overall.
Max Vohland rounded out the top five with a 7-5.
After crashing early in the second race and finishing 39th, the victor of Moto 1 ended a distant sixth in the overall standings.
