In the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday night, rookie running back Zamir White made an impression on the Raiders, but it wasn't the only noteworthy advancement in the offensive backfield.
Despite a weather delay and the absence of other starters, including Derek Carr, Davante Adams, and Darren Waller, Josh Jacobs began and participated in the first few series. Before head coach Josh McDaniels revealed why the veteran was in the game, he ran five times for 30 yards and caught a few passes.
McDaniels stated that it's vital for backs to carry the ball in the preseason, as Tashan Reed of TheAthletic.com. Several situations can't be reproduced in practice while you are attacked and struck. I believe one of our players had the ball tonight; they all either caught it or received it and had to be tackled. We can't truly practice it or simulate that.
Jacobs' option for 2023 was rejected by the Raiders, indicating their lack of confidence in his long-term role in their offence. Jacobs would probably have been excused if he was the lead back. Still, the fact that he was playing on Thursday night with White, Kenyan Drake, Ameer Abdullah, and Austin Walter implies they're still figuring out a pecking order for the near future.
