Last Saturday, Kevin Na announced via social media that he would be leaving the PGA Tour. Na has been named to the lineup for the first LIV Golf Tournament Series tournament next week in London.
Members of the PGA Tour are not given conflicting-event releases so that they can compete in the games organized by the Saudi-backed league.
In part, Na's statement read:
"I've been on the PGA Tour for 19 years and have enjoyed it." I'm grateful for the opportunity the tour has given me. I play the game I love and for changes that have arisen.
As a member of the PGA Tour, I must relinquish my right to decide my career. If I use my privilege to select where when I play sport, I will be subject to PGA Tour disciplinary action and legal action if I continue to do so.
I'm hoping that the existing policies will change and that I'll be able to return to the PGA Tour."
The Sony Open in Hawaii in 2021 was his most recent victory on the PGA Tour, where he won five times in 455 starts.
If Tour players participate in LIV Golf events, PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has warned them of sanctions and perhaps a lifelong ban.
