Leon Bell
Leon Bell said Tuesday that he would not play in the NFL this season as he shifts his focus to boxing.
The retirement was announced at a press conference held by Social Gloves to promote his upcoming fight against fellow star Adrian Peterson at the website Arena in Los Angeles on July 30.
"Boxing is something, you know; they always say it's something you can't play in boxing.
Last year, I sat almost the whole year trying to focus on boxing because I knew that was what I wanted. keep going," said Bell, 30. "This year, I know that I will not play this year because I want to focus on boxing."
The three-time Pro Bowl selection clarified that this is not a "one-off" fight for him.
He said, "I think this is like my introduction to show what I'm going to do and how I'm going to introduce myself. Just an introduction."
Peterson, who appeared at the news conference via video, said he may see boxing in his future but seems to have left his options open to continue his NFL career.
37-year-old Peterson
"It's something I see myself doing in the future as well, just depending on how things go," the 37-year-old Peterson said.
The former MVP pick and seven-time Pro Bowler, who ranks fifth on the NFL's all-time MVP list with 14,918 yards, said there's a ring in his Houston gym.
