A female player has won a tournament for the first time on the DP World Tour. Linn Grant, too, spectacularly made history.
On Sunday, the 22-year-old Swede demolished a field of male and female golfers in the Scandinavian Mixed event at Halmstad Golf Club, winning by nine strokes after an 8-under 64 final round.
She finished 14 strokes ahead of the following best woman, Gabriella Cowley, who tied for 15th place.
Her first six holes were birdies as Grant started the day two strokes in front, displaying the outstanding ball-striking and calm demeanor she has shown throughout the week in southern Sweden.
She seized a nine-stroke lead after tapping in for birdie on the par-5 11th hole, and she went on to make eight birdies in total, capping off a bogey-free weekend and the golfing week of her life.
It's the second edition of a tournament that began with 78 men and 78 women competing for the same prize fund and trophy on the same course, albeit from different tees.
The grandfather of Grant moved to Helsingborg, Sweden, from Inverness in northern Scotland. John, her father, was also a member of the Swedish Golf Tour and had seven victories on the Swedish Senior Tour. Grant became pro last year, winning events on the Ladies European Tour in March and May, establishing herself as a rising star. Grant said having those two victories under her belt made her feel relaxed coming into the most crucial round of her life in an on-course interview on the front nine.
This week, her boyfriend, Pontus, was her caddie, and her mother was on the course, cheering Grant onto each green on a day when the weather was changing.
Henrik Stenson, who co-hosted the event with fellow Swede Annika Sorenstam, shot 70 and tied for second place with Marc Warren.
