The DP World Tour has disqualified players who broke its rules from competing in next month's Scottish Open, even though this is a far cry from the harsh punishment the PGA Tour meted out to its players who left for the LIV Golf series.
Members of the DP World Tour will be penalized for around $105,000 and disqualified from the event co-sponsored by the PGA Tour. Additionally, those players will not be permitted to compete in the Barracuda Championship or Barbasol Championship; both are co-sanctioned by the PGA Tour. Still, the following week, they will be allowed to compete in European circuit competitions, such as the Irish Open.
The meritocratic ecosystem of professional golf, which has served as the cornerstone of our game for the past 50 years and will serve as the foundation upon which we build the next 50,
has been disrespected, according to many members I've spoken with in recent weeks, according to DP World Tour CEO Keith Pelley. Their actions harm the tour and are unfair to most of our membership.
Martin Kaymer, Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell, and Richard Bland are among the athletes who Friday's announcement will impact.
17 PGA Tour players were suspended indefinitely after participating in the inaugural LIV event in early June.
Additionally, the DP World Tour cautioned its participants against competing in any additional clashing tournaments without obtaining the necessary releases. The following week, in Portland, Oregon, we will see the next LIV Golf competition.
