Max Verstappen is the overwhelming PointsBet Sportsbook's favourite to win the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix after winning five of the first eight rounds of the Formula One season.
Verstappen has terrible odds of -260 this week, which means the only way a punter can profit from this bet is to find someone willing to take the opposing side. Verstappen's minus line is partly because he will lead the field to green on Sunday.
The Canadian Grand Prix has not been held since 2019 because of the continued issues of COVID-19, and Verstappen finished one of three top-five finishes in five starts at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve race. In 2018, he finished third, which was his highest finish.
With a line of +540, Carlos Sainz Jr. is rated second this week. He has been on the podium four times in the first eight rounds, with a pair of second-place results in Bahrain and Monte Carlo serving as his highwater mark. However, Sainz's highest finish at Canda is seventh. He finished in the top ten in 2018 and 2016 and had a ninth-place result in 2016. Sainz qualified for the race in third place.
Moving the decimal point two to the left is one approach to looking at American Odds.
That will tell a bettor how much they will win on a $1 bet. Therefore Sainz's return on investment for the race this week is $5.40. A bet of +300 is the same as 3/1 for gamblers who prefer fractional odds.
Fernando Alonso is +1300 to start from the outside pole. Alonso has made 16 appearances on this track, winning once in 2006. He has not finished in the top ten in his last four efforts and only ran after one of those races.
At +2000, Charles Leclerc is placed fourth. In 2019, he had two Canadian Grands Prix under his belt and had once again finished on the podium. Leclerc won two of the season's first three races but has yet to finish in the top three in his past three appearances. Because he was already facing a 10-place grid penalty for changing his engine, Leclerc attempted qualification after qualifying in the first group.
Lewis Hamilton (+2200) is ranked fifth this week.
Hamilton finished third in the season-opening race in Bahrain but hasn't done much better in 2022. However, he came close to scoring a fourth last week in Azerbaijan. Hamilton has seven victories at the Canadian Grand Prix, including four of the last five. In 2019, he was the most recent winner on this track, winning by 3.658 seconds over Sebastian Vettel.
