Verstappen is this week's PointsBet Sportsbook betting favourite to win the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix after winning five of the first eight rounds of the 2022 Formula 1 season.
Verstappen's unfavourable odds this week are -260, meaning the only way a punter can win with this wager is to find someone who will take the opposing side. Verstappen's negative score is partially attributable to the fact that he will get the team to the green on Sunday.
The Canadian Grand Prix has not been held since 2019 due to the continued difficulties with COVID-19, and in that event, Verstappen finished one of three top-five finishes in five starts at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve. In 2018, he achieved his highest result of the third.
With a line of +540, Carlos Sainz Jr. is rated second this week. His best results so far have been a pair of second-place finishes in Bahrain and Monte Carlo. He has appeared on the podium four times in the first eight races. Sainz's best performance in Canada is sixth, though. He placed in the top 10 in 2018, and he also placed ninth in 2016. Third, in the field for the race was Sainz.
By moving the decimal point two spaces to the left, one can see American Odds. That will show a bettor how much they will win on a $1 wager. Therefore Sainz's return on investment for the race this week is $5.40. A chance of +300 is equivalent to 3/1 for gamblers who are more at ease with fractional odds.
Fernando Alonso is slated to start from the outside pole at +1300. On this track, Alonso has made 16 starts, with one victory in 2006. In his last four efforts, he hasn't been in the top 10, and he was still running in only one of those contests.
At +2000, Charles Leclerc is placed fourth.
He won two Canadian Grand Prix races, and in 2019 he had a podium finish once. Leclerc has won two of the first three races this season, but in his previous three appearances, he has not finished on the podium. After finishing last in the first group, Leclerc attempted to qualify after facing a penalty of 10 places for changing engines.
Lewis Hamilton is ranked fifth this week at +2200. Hamilton finished on the podium in Bahrain's opening race of the season, but since then, his finishes have not been as strong. With a fourth, he got close last week in Azerbaijan. Hamilton has won the previous four Canadian Grand Prix races, giving him seven victories. He was the most recent winner on this track in 2019, beating Sebastian Vettel by 3.658 seconds.
