In light of James Washington's foot injury, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated that there is no urgency" to sign a seasoned wide receiver to the roster, although there may be some for their kicker.
The two kickers on the squad right now are rookie Jonathan Garibay and Lirim Hajrullahu, neither of whom has made an impression thus far.
During a special teams period on Tuesday, Hajrullahu was 3-of-8 on field goals while Garibay was 6-of-8. Nevertheless, Garibay failed all three of his attempts during a practice mimicking long-range game-winning shots. Hajrullahu had one of three throughout that exercise.
Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Cowboys, remarked after the practice that someone needs to stand up and take the reins.
According to Clarence Hill of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, McCarthy stated that these two are vying for the same position.
They eventually began to feel at ease and began to kick more often. I was stating the obvious there. The rope is present after the day. Someone must seize it.
McCarthy said the two players would kick throughout every session this week to get back on track. If that doesn't succeed, it could be time for fresh prospects to have a shot at making the squad for Dallas.
