Aleksandar Mitrovic
Aleksandar Mitrovic has scored five goals in as many games since making his Premier League comeback, as Fulham defeated Brighton 2-1 on Tuesday at Craven Cottage.
Alexis Mac Allister
On a bad day for the previously unbeaten Seagulls, an Alexis Mac Allister penalty was all the visitors could muster. A Lewis Dunk own goal joined Mitrovic on the Fulham side of the ledge.
WATCH the FULL MATCH REPLAY STREAM OF FULHAM vs. BRIGHTON
After 45 minutes of dull play, the game picked up steam in the second half and hardly looked back. All goals were scored within 15 minutes of the restart, despite Brighton's valiant efforts to score an equalizer that did not help Graham Potter.
With eight points, Fulham jumps to sixth place, two points and places behind Brighton.
Lessons from Fulham vs. Brighton
Brighton wasn't at its best because its depth was tested, and it became desperate once Fulham seized a 2-0 lead. Flat Seagulls fail to scavenge. But on another day, the Seagulls' four shots on target might have resulted in a goal. We can promise that Graham Potter would not envision his team playing in a 3-5-2 formation with Leandro Trossard and Pascal Gross at the top of their assault. The team still needs a star striker, but things were brighter and more familiar once Danny Welbeck came. We feel awful for the Brighton supporters who frequent this site and anticipate a different analysis, but the Amex desperately needs a finisher.
Fulham's left-American side queries the USMNT:
Antonee Robinson is running up and down the left side and appears to be playing better defense than he has in a long time. Tim Ream, a veteran of the USMNT who is now serving as the Cottagers' captain and appears to be at ease in that role, has been positioned next to him at left center back. He won't break the speed record, I assure you. And clubs with pure strikers will find his skill set more difficult to use. But could the USMNT's World Cup team's left defensive side regularly compete in the Premier League?
Mitrovic poses
What a difference a tenure makes—even more so than a team—in the threat Mitrovic poses. Aleksandar Mitrovic wasn't at his best for Newcastle, but he didn't exactly shine for Fulham in his first season in the Premier League. It's been different this time. Due to his record-breaking performance in the Championship, the player is now more in control of his unbridled desire and is roaring with confidence (and rage).
tactical stance
Due to subpar defender hiring, Fulham's previous Premier League tenure was over nearly before it began. When he first entered the Premier League, Tosin Adarabioyo was inexperienced. Still, the 24-year-old now appears more at ease next to Ream, and Robinson is a wide danger to partner with Kenny Tete on the other side. More crucially, Fulham is better positioned to rest defenders with Issa Diop and Kevin Mbabu on the bench. Testing Fulham isn't as simple for Premier League assaults as it was when you factor in two respectable goalkeepers in Bernd Leno and Marek Rodak.
