Baseball deadline teams have just a few days to complete their summer purchases, as this year's trade deadline is Tuesday, August 2. After that, teams can no longer make contracts until the season.
The deadline usually ends on July 31, but Commissioner Rob Manfred can set it to any day between July 28 and August 3 as part of the new bargaining agreement between MLB and the Baseball Players Association.

The biggest of those prominent names was Nationals outfielder Juan Soto, who became available earlier this month after turning down a 15-year, $440 million extension offer.
Soto is a 23-year-old player on a Hall of Fame track, and he remains under control for two more seasons after this one, making him one of the most coveted trade targets in league history. League.
The Nationals appear motivated to move Soto ahead of the deadline, as the new owners are expected to buy the franchise this offseason. Incoming franchisees are unlikely to want to change their first big move from the face of the owner.
