For an infraction at Sonoma Raceway last weekend, NASCAR docked Cody Ware and Rick Ware Racing 20 points each.
Ware's car failed inspection four times before the race, resulting in penalties for both the driver and the team. NASCAR also removed Ware's team's engineer, barred him from qualifying, and forced him to pass through the pits after the race's green flag. Ware came in 32nd place.
After the punishment, Ware is still in 32nd place in the driver standings. He leads BJ McLeod by 15 points with 119 points. Rick Ware Racing is now 36th in owner points, the worst among those teams that have started every race due to the 20-point penalty. Rick Ware Racing sits 35th in the owner standings, two points behind Live Fast Motorsports.
