A rule book revision published by NASCAR Wednesday afternoon upped the allotted repair time for race cars on pit road from six minutes to ten.
Damaged Vehicle Policy
Previously, due to the Damaged Vehicle Policy, the driver's race would terminate if damaged automobiles couldn't be fixed within a six-minute deadline (DVP). For the playoffs, which are set to begin Sunday with the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway, that duration has been increased to 10 minutes (6 p.m. ET on USA Network). The modification will stand through the upcoming season.
According to NASCAR, the modification was made "in conjunction with race teams during the season as a result of learnings on the Next Gen race car's repair time."
Ryan Blaney's
When Ryan Blaney's crew informed him they had around 20 seconds left on their six-minute DVP clock last week at Daytona International Speedway, NBC Sports' Parker Kligerman reported it on Monday's Motormouths program. He continued to run and earned the last playoff berth.
Daytona International Speedway
Numerous cars sustained damage during a series of collisions at Daytona International Speedway on Sunday. Due to the DVP cap, three were parked, while 16 were eliminated in wrecks.
On Sunday, sixteen drivers will start their quest for the Cup championship.
