The 2021-22 NBA season has ended, with a title for the Golden State Warriors, and all eyes are already on the next big event on the calendar: the draft ceremony that will take place today, Thursday, June 23, 2022, and will be held at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. In this ceremony, the next great litter of university students and players who present themselves for the Draft will arrive, who will unite in the best League in the world to face what will be their next great adventure.
The Magic has been made in the previous drawing with the number 1 of the 2022 draft. Thunder, Rockets, and Kings will be the next to choose. The main favourite for number 1 in the Draft and potential leader of an exciting litter is Jabari Smith Jr., son of a father who went through the NBA and Spain and has played until now at Auburn University. The emerging star has averaged 16.9 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 1.0 blocks in 34 college games, with 42.0% shooting from 3-point range. Paolo Banchero (Duke) and Chet Holmgren (Gonzaga) are the other two big names to watch in the Draft.
What is and how does the Draft work?
The Draft is a selection process with changing rules over time. From the simple choice of number one by the franchise with the lowest record of victories of the season (1947) to the current lottery (1984) to establish the team that chooses first, going through the toss-up between the two worst in the League (1990). They have also varied the number of rounds due to the expansion of the NBA. Thus, in 1950 there were 121 elections for a tournament with eleven teams. Now, there are 60 with 30. Each franchise has two selections (one in the first and the second).
