The controversy involving the Buccaneers and Saints
The league's response to Sunday's controversy involving the Buccaneers and Saints went beyond the choice to suspend receiver Mike Evans for one game. The team and former head coach Bruce Arians received a note from the NFL as well.
After the incident on Sunday, the NFL reportedly mailed a warning letter to Arians and the Buccaneers, according to a league source with knowledge of the matter.
Arians and the Buccaneers
Arians were properly seated in the bench area overall, but during the altercation, he was visibly in the white stripe designated for officials, players, and coaches. He was also obviously involved in the verbal component of the controversy.
At this time, the warning's specifics remain unknown. It's assumed that the Buccaneers might be penalized during the game and that Arians could be disciplined with a fine or even expulsion from the bench area. It probably won't go to that, though.
He'll agree, the insider assured.
The league is aware that having a former head coach act as an unofficial agitator or otherwise act as if he is still the coach even when he isn't might be problematic. It's good that the league took prompt action and put an end to it.
