First-round quarterbacks
The 2022 season will start in four days. By Sunday night's arrival, two quarterbacks selected in the first round of the NFL draught will have appeared in more than half of the games.
Nine games pit first-round quarterbacks against first-round quarterbacks, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. The most since 1967 that is. The previous mark, eight, was set in Week 1 of the 2012 campaign.
The nine games are between the Bills (Josh Allen, 2018) and the Rams (Matthew Stafford, 2009), the Saints (Jameis Winston, 2015) and the Falcons (Marcus Mariota, 2015), and the 49ers (Trey Lance, 2021) and the Bears (Justin Fields, 2021), the Steelers (Mitch Trubisky, 2017, or Kenny Pickett, 2022), the Bengals (Joe Burrow, 2020) (Kyler Murray, 2019).
Deshaun Watson's
Without Deshaun Watson's suspension, the number would be 10. If the ban hadn't occurred, the 2017 first-round pick would have faced the 2018 top pick when the Browns play the Panthers.
Only two of the major matchups in Week One don't feature at least one first-round quarterback starting for each team: the Buccaneers' matchup with the Cowboys, including Tom Brady in the sixth round, and the Broncos' matchup with the Seahawks, featuring Russell Wilson in the third round (Geno Smith, round two).
