The Bills know that a rookie will start at cornerback in Tre'Davious White's place when they take on the Rams on Thursday night in Los Angeles, but they aren't yet prepared to name that player.
Sean McDermott, the head coach, declined to play Dane Jackson opposite first-round pick Kaiir Elam or sixth-round pick Christian Benford. White has been placed on the list of people who are physically unable to perform and, as a result, must miss at least four weeks of work. The team's website lists Elam with the first team, but McDermott emphasized that no official decision has been made and claimed the team isn't merely making up information to get an advantage over rivals.
According to McDermott, via Katherine Fitzgerald of the Buffalo News, "probably a little bit of both." "We're still figuring that out. And let me tell you something: those two young players have put in a lot of effort. And once more, we're attempting to put the needs of our team and them first. After that, if it develops into a competitive advantage, it does so. However, that's not exactly the purpose of what we're doing.

Although both rookies will likely get significant playing time as the Bills attempt to stifle the Rams' passing offense, the starting quarterback won't be decided until Thursday night.
